Nope, not following anyone at the moment

Although, if I find somebody to follow, I will. I was watching Cats 101 on Animal Planet last night, and there was a cat behaviorist I'd like to find on the Web. There was also a cat trainer in Las Vegas who picks up shelter cats and puts them in his stage act. I read Karen Pryor's stuff whenever she says something. I keep my pinky on that one.

I was originally trained to train dogs by Wodehouse. She is in England. I don't know who/what she was in life, but she taught me to train a very stubborn dog. It was the first time I ever tried to train a dog to do what I wanted it to do, not just what it picked up. I've always been able to train cats to do stuff. Some cats train better at one thing or another. Some like to jump, some like to attack, some will go through obstacles, or rings. Some love kennels and some want nothing to do with them. Each cat is different.

Anyways - just a quick post to let you know that no, I don't follow Google Forums or Groups. I probably should, but they get spammed by strange folks and animal cruelty freaks. There are some really knowledgable folks on the ones I used to follow. That was on the old computer, and I no longer have the links, sorry. That was Google, not Yahoo! or MSN.

Dont' get me started on MSN. I think the entire company needs to be taken apart and separated into the parts that it does best - programming. News is not it's forte' and it should get out.

And the programming team needs to fix what's wrong before it tries to force it on the rest of us.

I can't even read hotmail anymore because of the layers of crap that crash my computer. Anything of import is removed from Hotmail. The only stuff going there is a test of the e-zine, and junk. I can't even read the newsletters from my suppliers anymore. What a mess!

Flea Site is Gone

I took down Flea-fighters.com. I had a choice, and I made it. I look forward to really working on the big site, For-the-Love-of-Cats.com a lot. I hope you like the changes.

OOPS...

I sent out the newsletter unfinished. Instead of hitting up my readers with another issue right away to fix the oversight, I decided to leave it alone.

I've had a small fire at my house, restricted computer access and all manner of stuff going on. It's all an excuse but it did distract me. I guess something had to fall, and my newsletter issue was what fell.

Things are getting back to normal, but it will take a while yet for all the parts and pieces to balance out again.

ONP Community

My strength is in animal (cat) training. I have an uncanny ability to figure out what a cat is saying by it's behaviors when the behaviors are described thoroughly. That's how I do what I do.

I am restricting my comments at the Only Natural Pets Community Forum to the behavior area. I recommend some products, but I also talk about the training involved. This link will take you to the actual Forum topic I'm monitoring....

http://onlynaturalpetcommunity.com/forums/32.aspx

Please - contribute! I read all the posts and respond when it's right for me to. I am not "running" the topic, but certainly do contribute a lot. There are many folks who are gifted with cats out there, I'm just more visible than most.

Updates continue

I've been updating like crazy! Toys, homeopathic remedies, foods...

Man! Lots of work.

I pretty much took an action I've been putting off for a long time. I pulled all ads from one network, and only left a few from another, but those will go soon, too. I thought it was going that way a long time ago, but I kept hoping.

I'm over it. Too much work for no sales, since you guys don't like their stuff anyway. The stuff you like is still there. It isn't going away.

Basically, I'm as lazy as the next person, I guess. Internet businesses aren't supposed to be so darned hard and time-consuming. If things are that way, then you are doing something wrong. I've stopped doing the wrong things.

Been paying attention??

Have you been paying attention? I've been updating pages on the sly. First one to find the latest update gets a goodie!

Counseling is tight, and I've been getting good reviews from my clients.

If you have ever been counseled, please contribute - pay it forward/back, whatever, here...

Bad Cat Behaviors From Readers

Folks post their problems and other folks offer solutions. You can do it too!

Still accepting photos for the cool cats contest, too. That will end shortly, but only one entry, so if you don't enter, you can't win. The prizes are equal to $100, so it's a good one. Oh, and the prizes are NOT coupons. I've got a catalog here and I'm sending the goodies from that to the winner.

Pictures Replaced!

Many of the photos of the flea meds went away and showed as a box. I just replaced all the photos, so that's what the updates are about. The links still work - never went down.

Neem Oil

I'm trying Neem oil in a new capacity - not on the cats but on me.

I've had a recent series of break-outs, and the docs call it "adult acne" but their meds don't seem to help much. So, I figured I'd give the Neem oil a try.

I'll get used to it, I promise!

Oh, and the cats don't care for it, but it does stop the fleas, so they put up with it.

Let's face it - the stuff has a strong odor that takes some getting used to. Very earthy.

Beware of Pyrethrins

Pyrethrins can harm cats, fish and the environment. Natural pyrethrins can break down and dissipate in about a week. Laboratory versions don't break down as well, so I hope you think about it.

If you want to know what is safe for you animals, check For-the-Love-of-Cats.com for safe alternatives. Read all label directions if you have any concerns.

Never use outdated chemicals. The changes that occur after expiration date can be fatal. Not just to your pet, but yourself as well. A lot of the chemicals we use for fleas are also used in fumigating for termites.

Helping Out!

I've come to an agreement with Only Natural Pets and their new Community Forum.
ONP Cat Behavior Forum

I'll be doing some online counseling through the Cat Behavior forum. I'm not moderating the forum, just a regular contributor. If you have any kitty problems you'd like me to talk about, I'll be glad to address them....

I won't be recommending any products they do not sell, so if I feel you need something they don't carry, I'll be sure to tell you that I can't help....

In that case, you will have to go through my regular counseling channel at the website,
For the Love of Cats

Getting back on track

I'm getting back on track!

I've had two counselings that could have been cut and dried but I followed my gut and gave some off the wall counseling - like "have your friend do this when you are away" and "check eyesight this way" and stuff!

Yahoo!!!!

I'm back!

Been too long!

Life is Busy!

I've been so busy!

I flew to California in April to help my sister as my Mom passed from this world. Mom passed in early May, and I came home a few days later.

When I got back, life hit like a ton of bricks! So much to do and so little time! I inherited another computer, some painting supplies and books. I had to make room for it all.

The cats have been very attached to me since I returned, too. They needed me, and I was gone a very long time! They have been clingy, loving and very vocal.

My newsletter readers got this news too, and I'm keeping a lot private that I don't want on the 'web.

I started my linking campaign on Flea Fighters, too. I don't have quite 30 pages yet, but the traffic is growing quickly. I put up another page and I think I'm about done. Not a lot of pages, but a lot of information! I still have some housekeeping to do, and I keep finding more MSDS sheets. I can continue to present the information in different ways, I guess.

Any articles I print that I find would pretty much say the same thing as what I have already. Any "novel" ideas, though - I'm all over 'em! ;>)

I had some trouble keeping up with my email counseling while I was in California. I didn't have internet for several days and when I did, my mind wasn't on cat whispering. I've caught up, but I'm still not being as consistent as I was before. That will improve as my mind clears. And I hope that my advice has not been flippant or shallow during this time.

Well, if I've missed anything, I'm sure you folks will let me know....

EPA Information US & AU

I got into an email exchange with a fellow who found a similarly named outfit selling "generic" flea meds on eBay. Wow!

I did some research and decided not to change the site name. Instead, I took the tack of exploring EPA approval and registration. I found an article which I partially reprinted (with a link to the source article) and got some government lists of approved chemicals and regulations about the process. I made a conscious choice to only promote or discuss products that are branded or registered.

I got hold of these two government documents - for Australia and the US - and I make them available to you.

Pesticides are dangerous! Don't mess around with "generic" stuff. You don't know what strength they are, how old they are, or if there are any additives or by-products that adversely affect the behavior of the chemicals. Drugs and pesticides have expiration dates for a reason!

Massive Upload Happened!

I did a massive upload of more flea meds! Man! I had NO IDEA there were so many!

I added as many of the "natural" products as I could ferret out, too. So EVERYTHING is there!

There were so many, that I moved them to their own page. No rhyme or reason - mostly just "as loaded" in the list - not alphabetized yet. That will happen - will have to happen - soon!

Go ahead and download whatever documents you want to read about. There is one website, the rest are all pdf documents.

I guess I should offer the reader too???

Yikes! And I got my first exchange link from a lady with a site. She sells flea meds, but she isn't that much competition. I have a lot more information, but she's a good source for EPA approved meds for now.

Cat Urine Odor eBook

I've pulled the book to update it. All the links went bad due to product replacements and site updates over 3 years. So, the book is temporarily unavailable.

I request that you email me at the address in your eZine subscription confirmation email, and I will send you an advance copy when I've finished the updates, and before it goes back up on the website.

I'm toying with the idea of adding some extras to the book - insights into cat behaviors and ways to control aggression - what do you think?

MSDS Sheets up on For-the-Love-of-CAts

I put up the MSDS sheets in pdf format on For the Love of Cats. I noticed that some folks are looking for them, and since they are integral to the site information, I put them up for my readers.

I still have to do the "natural Flea control" page, but the chemicals are all up there. Those were the ones folks were looking for.

Princess' Ear Update

Well, Princess' ear is still bad. The swelling goes up and down, but she's not going after it all the time and the infection seems to be on the mend. The heat is gone from it. I'm watching it closely, upsetting Princess every time I look at it.

I got her records from the vet she saw and the front desk girl had to get her digs in by making snide remarks and notations in the file. I'm glad to be done with them. I can be insulted a lot closer to home.

I ordered some supplies so that I can treat the underlying problem, but they haven't come yet. The charge hasn't hit my card, and I ordered over a week ago! I'm becoming concerned. I may have to get some more glass droppers and take the risk of further injury to the cats, while the plastic ones I ordered are backordered or something.

Well, I'll keep you posted on it.

Princess' Ear

Princess' ear has another hematoma. She had surgery just a few months ago. It cost quite a bit, and I questioned at the time because part of the ear was left pristine. Well, it ballooned up last night.

I'm really not sure anymore. I go to the vet, see a tech in the exam room - I never even see the vet anymore! Are there vets running the business? Are there vets doing the surgery? I wonder. All you ever see around here is the techs.

And the price/cost has more than doubled! Must be from paying all the help. But if this is the quality of work, I'll have to find a new vet. I'm supposed to be going to the best in the area, but she hired some new vets - or brought them into the practice however she did it - and the quality went way down while the price went way up. Not a good bargain in my mind.

And quality - well, if you have to bring the cat back for the same thing when you questioned it at the time - well that says it all, don't you think?

So, Fountain City Animal Hospital in Halls, TN is no longer the place to go. Find someplace else.

Reaction to person who commented - there is no excuse for rudeness, discourtesy or uncivil conduct. If you go to a professional office, you expect to see a professional. Vets routinely charge more and more for the same thing they did a while back - while some of that is just inflation, some sounds to me like they are gouging the clients. A courtesy face-to-face is always expected at their office. Any staff member who has access to charts should not necessarily be allowed to make comments in them. When I got Princess' records, AFTER the notes from surgery, at the bottom of the page, the office girl made her comments. Shouldn't those kind of comments be made BEFORE surgery???? No, because I had trouble with the $$ amount of the billing, she made snide remarks in the chart. The amount of the bill cost twice my rent. That's too much.

I've pull the site this post referred to. All the information can now be found on For-the-love-of-cats.com

Babies Won!

My babies won! I saw a thread in one of my favorite forums running a kitty contest. I posted the photos of the kids. They won! Cat litter!

Hey - yeah, that's right...
I haven't posted it here - there is a new kind of cat litter on the market. It changes color if the cat has a UTI. I'm recommending it for any cat that has had 2 UTIs in the past 12 months. If you want to try it anyway, go ahead, but that's my recommendation right now. I'll be getting some of it and I'll have more to say about it

Update Oct 21 2009 - I never received the cat litter and the product was pulled from the market.
